Enjoy Life ICCM [Flipchart]

This flipchart is part of a set of branded communication materials developed for the “Enjoy Life-Keep Good Health campaign” in 2012 in Uganda. Malaria Consortium has been supporting the Uganda Ministry of Health since 2009 in rolling out the integrated community case management (ICCM) program in various regions of the country, as part of the national Village Health Team strategy. Community health workers (called Village Health Teams) are trained to diagnose and treat simple cases of malaria, pneumonia and diarrhea in children under five. This was complemented with community activation to generate interactive and in-depth discussion at the community level of the issues and messages put forward in the mass media through monthly radio talk shows and Community dialogues run by VHTs at the village level. The campaign and the set of branded materials were developed using a strategic communication process, including formative research, strategy development, client-oriented design, materials pre-testing, participatory implementation planning and monitoring and evaluation. The overall theme and colors of the Enjoy Life campaign and materials were developed using concept testing to ensure its relevance and appeal to the target audiences. The enjoy Life-Keep Good Health Flipchart is used by VHTs during regular Community Dialogues that they organize at village level, as well as during individual consultation with caregivers of sick children. Key messages in the flipchart are meant to fill in knowledge gaps of target audiences about 3 main childhood diseases’ prevention & management, as identified in formative research, with corresponding pictures and drawings to help low-literacy audiences to recall messages. Target audiences are expected to be exposed to repeated same key messages through complementary channels used by the campaign, namely the radio, community leaders, and posters.
